The Algeria national football team, nicknamed Les Fennecs (The Desert Foxes), has been one of Africa’s strongest sides since joining FIFA in 1964. They have qualified for four FIFA World Cups, with their best run coming in 2014 when they reached the Round of 16. Algeria are two-time Africa Cup of Nations winners, lifting the trophy in 1990 on home soil and again in 2019. Regionally, they also won the FIFA Arab Cup in 2021. Under coach Djamel Belmadi, Algeria enjoyed a record 35-match unbeaten streak from 2018 to 2022 and remain among Africa’s top-ranked national teams.
