Libya’s national football team, nicknamed The Mediterranean Knights, has never qualified for a FIFA World Cup and has appeared just three times in the Africa Cup of Nations (1982—finishing runners-up as hosts—then 2006 and 2012). Their regional showings include runners-up in the Arab Cup (1964, 2012) and champions of the 2014 African Nations Championship. Currently coached by Aliou Cissé, Libya is striving to break a long absence from AFCON and is pushing for its first-ever World Cup qualification.
